Tired of schools telling you that you're welcome to homeschool your child through them so long as you go by their standards? Not so here!
At Freedom Academy we understand that you, as the parent, know what is best for your child. You know your children's wants, needs and curiosities. Most of all, you know how to get it done. Best of all? We trust you to do it!
Once you sign up you will be expected to report your attendance at the first of each month. That is it. What is attendance? Attendance are, for an unschooler, days you feel your child learned something. That can easily be everyday! This is up to you. Like we said, we trust the parent. You know your child best.
What is next? Simply go about your business! Would you like a trancript? A report card? No problem. A few days before you need it, let me know, and I will mail you one. Free of charge. How will I know what grades to put on it? Easy, you will tell me. The grading is entirely up to you.
What about high school? Well, what about it? We do have a list of required classes for middle and high schooI but what curriculum you use, whether you have created it yourself, is nearly entirely up to you. We have seen many umbrella schools state how 'open' they are to teaching styles, and yet turn their heads on high school. Shouldn't high school be the same?
I am open to compromise! All I ask, in exchange for high school transcript/diploma is a notarized letter from you stating those are your childs actual grades, and you are being honest about their progress. For middle and high school all we ask is that you let us know the curriculum you are using. Are you unschooling? Eclectic? That is okay, we can work with that. Simply let us know what activity you have planned that will fill that class requirement. It's that easy! In exchange I will ship the information out to you, it's all included!:)
Below are a list of some of my graduation requirements. This is all they will see on your high school transcript. They will see the class, along with the grade.
Grade 9- Biology Won't be seeing this-(Took a class at your local zoo/National Geographic/4-H)
Language Arts (Kept a journal/wrote stories/penpal/ Likes to read/ Theatre in your church- (got to read the plays there, right;)
Math- (kitchen science-it's got fractions!, math group, played board games, etc..)
Science, etc.
I understand these examples are a little simplistic, and are more the lower grades. My biggest concern is that you have a plan. If you have a well thought out plan, then go for it! Each child is different.
All I do ask is when it is time to send in the grades for a transcript/diploma, that you send in a notarized letter stating your assurance these are indeed your child's grades. This is all included.
Graduation with honors is also available, please check graduation requirements for this information.
